Background:
A graduate in engineering from one of the premium universities of Canada, our client worked on some of the most innovative engineering projects and even attained the coveted ‘Registered Engineer’ designation. He further went to complete Project Management Professional certification from PMI (Project Management Institute) and even attended trainings and certifications on Six Sigma Green Belt and Lean Six Sigma Black Belt besides Analytics and Programming for Engineers.
Problem Statement:
The recent pandemic made many companies to recosider their talent strategy and many organizations stopped their existing projects and because of the very reason, many professionals lost their jobs. The Oil and Gas and Chemical industry which was already facing global supply demand issues got further impacted by Pandemic and many professionals who were working in prominent oil and gas companies lost their jobs.
After a year of futile job search, our client decided to continue his education and also to switch his career. As a part of self assessment, he explored the options of making a move to Information Technology or Finance domain because of high demand. As a part of career transition, he also took up few courses in Information Technology but didn’t achieved the desired results. Later he decided to explore the second career in accounting and finance.
Solution:
After considering various options and self assessment, our client hired our services to help him in planning his career and to guide him with appropriate courses besides helping with admissions and career progression. The team at CETMATRIX was onboarded to study the requirement and after going through his academic details, we had a detailed coaching session. During the coaching session, we analyzed on different aspects including the probablity of course completion, transferrable skills from previous education and transferrable skills from job besides his learning capabilities and demand from the industry. We also noted down his interest areas and designed a career pathway for him.
After having a detailed session, our team advised him to go ahead for second degree in accounting (B.Comm – Accounting (Second Degree), instead of a Graduate Diploma of Higher Diploma and also advised him to make his career as a CPA (Chartered Public Accountant). In Canada or USA, a student can pursue a second degree in a different stream if he is interested in career transition. A second degree can help the students in making easier transition than a masters in different domain furthermore, a student can even opt for credit transformation. Furthermore, in Canada to attain CPA the student should complete accounting degree, complete CPA PEP, CFE and should have three years experience. For the student without accounting degree, CPA also gives the option of CPA prep.
As a part of counselling and consulting process, we shortlisted the universities with good placement and good internship options besides scope of practice for CPAs. As a part of process, we got connected with over ten accounting schools in two provinces and negotiated the credit transfers, fees and even chances of scholarships with the admission officers and department officials.
