I am sure most of you might have heard about NAAC accreditation and might even know the benefits of joining top NAAC grade college or university. Today in this post, I am going to talk about NAAC accreditation in detail. 

NAAC (or) National Assessment and Accreditation Council was established in the year 1994 as an autonomous body by UGC (University Grants Commission) to accredit colleges and to provide consulting and advisory to higher education institutions. Basically NAAC evaluates and certified the college or the university and UGC use it as a reference point to allot them grants and even autonomous status. 

In India, NAAC accreditation is an integral part of the functioning of higher education ecosystem and it is mandatory for all the higher education institutions to attain NAAC accreditation. UGC also allot grants to the university only if they are NAAC accredited. 

Basically NAAC accreditation determines the quality of the insitution in terms of teaching, research, infrastructure, extra curricular, co- cullicular activities, student success, innnovation, education pedagogy and learning. Higher Education Institutions with top NAAC grades such as A++, A+ and A are one of the most sought after institution by both the students as well as companies. The NAAC accreditation for the collges and the universities is a three step process and NAAC will allot them score on five key key parameters mentioned above. Post completion of the evaluation, NAAC will allot them scores and if the higher education institution recieves a score of 3.51 to 4.00 then they will be graded as A++ while the institutions or the colleges with a score of 1.51 to 2.00 are graded as C. The one who didn’t opted for accreditation are graded as D.

As a student if you want to know the accreditation of the college or the university before applying than you can do the same by visiting The NAAC accreditation dashboard in the NAAC website. In the dashboard, you can see the list of all the colleges and universities categorically along with the accreditation period. 

Cycles of Accreditation:

Higher learning institutes that undergo NAAC assessment for the first time is referred as Cycle 1, and the consecutive five-year periods as Cycle 2, Cycle 3 etc. 

NAAC Re-Assessment:

NAAC accredited higher learning institutes seeking an improvement in the accredited status may apply for re-assessment. However, the institutes are allowed to apply for reaccreditation at least one year after (but not more than three years).
