In the previous post, I talked about NAAC accreditation and its benefits for the students. Today, I am going to talk about NBA Accreditation and its benefits. NAAC and NBA are two major accreditors in India for higher education. NAAC, as you know accredit colleges and universities while the NBA accredits engineering, management, architecture and pharmacy programs. NBA is also a full member of Washington Accord.
Let’s see the brief history of NBA:
NBA along with NAAC was established in the year 1994 and gained the autonomy in the year 2010. Furthemore, it became the member of Washington Accord in the year 2014. NBA accredit diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate programs. The main function of NBA is to assess the performance of a specific Engg Program such as BE in Computer Sciences, B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering or MBA or diploma or pg diploma a in Finance etc. and issue Quality Accreditation Certificate to a specific program that it complies with the quality Standard Criteria of NBA.
NBA accredits the college and its program on Mission and vision statement, Programme Outcomes, Course Outcomes, Faculty Contributions, Students’ Performance, Teaching-Learning Process Laboratories, Infrastructure and Library.
NBA certification for tier 1 UG engineering program is recognized in more than 20 big countries who are members of Washington Accord.
Washington Accord is an international accreditation agreement signed between 20 countries including USA, UK, Australia, Canada and Newzealand. Based on this accord, the students from the accredited university can get their documents evaluated for engineering license in other countries.
Based on NBA accredition, institutions can apply for AICTE funds, autonomous college status, deemed university status and apply for research projects.
Benefit to the students:
If a college or higher education institution is NBA accredited that it is implied that it has high quality infrastructure and good teachers. Graduating from top NBA accredited college will help you in better recognition from employers as well as organizations for employment and research purpose. Furthermore graduating from top tier 1 accredited college increases your chances of getting campus placement by many folds. Even more, if you are planning to pursue your higher education in engineering in other countries like USA, UK than getting admission in tier 1 universities is quite easy as NBA is a member of Washington Accord.
Selecting NBA Accredited Program
If you are planning to join any engineering, pharmacy or mba college than you can see the accreditation status by visiting NBA website. NBA usually classifies the engineering colleges or the institutions in two categories. The tier 1 is the member of Washington Accord while the tier 2 is not. Further more there are few more classifications like Management, Pharmacy, MCA, Architecture and Hospitality.
One can search the program or the institution by going to NBA Dashboard. The dashboard will also give the result of number of programs accredited for the particular college and the accreditation cycle. You should also keep in mind that NBA doesn’t accredited the entire college instead it only accredits programs. So you should see the list of program accredited with the particular institution.
